PSALM 23:4.” Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me. “
In June 2014 I went into hospital for a full hysterectomy and the gynaecologist found signs of cancer. I then went for a CT scan and had to go see the oncologist in Amamzimtoti. He told me that I have cancer of the uterus and that the cancer had gone into the muscle as well as the mouth of the aorta. He wasn’t sure if it had gone into the lymph glands, as only a pepscan can tell and the medical aid wasn’t prepared to pay for the pep scan, as it is too expensive. The doctor said that he would target the lymph glands as well with the treatment, for just in case. I started with a six week chemo treatment and 28 days of radiation. After all that treatment was over I had to go to Durban for 2 brachytherapy treatments.
Through it all I was very positive and didn’t doubt for one moment that I wouldn’t get better, I just put all my trust in the Lord, I got my strength from Psalm 23:4: “Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me.”
Through all the vomiting and nausea and pain He was there for me, holding me and loving me. I was so sick – I had stomach aches every day for the duration of the treatment, I suffered constantly from diarrhoea and dehydration and landed in hospital twice, for about a week each time. My white blood count was so low that I had to get 2 blood transfusions. Food was out of the question, I just couldn’t eat at all (one way of losing weight,ha!ha!)
My son, Justin, was so stressed out looking at me everyday and seeing how sick I was but he was really wonderful. He did everything for me, he would sit and hold my hand and pray for me. He took me through to Amamzimtoti every treatment day, which is about 125 km from Shelly Beach where we stay, and would sit between 3 to 5 hours a day waiting for me. He never complained, not once.
Today I know that God has healed me from cancer for the 2nd time, the first time was 15 years ago when I had breast cancer and now again. I will never take life for granted as it is a wonderful gift from God and every morning when I wake up I thank Him for a new day. My family has been so wonderfull and stood by me through everything.
We have an amazing God, a God of love who heals us and loves us and we experience His grace and mercy everday in our lives.
I thank everyone who prayed for me. I want to close with ISAIH 43:1-3. “Do not be afraid, I will save you. I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through deep waters I will be with you. Your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt. The hard trials that come your way will not hurt you, for I am the Lord your God , the Holy God of Israel, who saves you.”
All praise to God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
